English teacher Kate Wigley said: “All the pupils are extremely excited to be taking part in the enormously popular Blue Peter Book Awards. It’s a wonderful chance to come together and celebrate reading. I’m thrilled we were chosen.”
The schools taking part are Charlton Primary, Millbrook Primary in Grove, Wantage CofE Primary, St Nicholas CofE Primary in East Challow and St James CofE Primary in East Hanney. Nine-year-old Luca Allen, from St Nicholas, said: “My experience as a judge has made me very happy. I love judging books. I want to know what the book is about, if it is exciting and will it make people happy. One day I’d like to write my own books.”
The awards are organised by children’s reading charity BookTrust, which has given schools guidance on what might make a winning text, as well as providing them with copies of the books.
