OUTDOOR REFLECTION

Encouraging children and young people to take time to be still outdoors and to pause and to wonder at seasons in the natural world, the structures, cycles of growth and renewal inherent in trees, plants and animals, can nurture spiritual development and growth.

School playgrounds, playing fields, vegetable plots, reflective or Forest School areas offer year round potential as creative resources for multi-sensory outdoor reflection to help develop children and young people's self and spiritual confidence and vocabulary.

Why not try out taster One Minute Wonder outdoor reflection resource via the link below. Year 4 pupils at St Nicholas CE Primary have been enjoying using these resources in their vegetable garden, alongside seasonal gardening.

Year 4's Feedback about 'One Minute Wonder' reflections

“I enjoyed practical gardening and then stopping to think about what you are doing?.”

“I enjoyed the team work in the gardening. The reflections calmed me down.”

“I liked when we were doing the reflection in the rain because you could feel the raindrops on your hand, catching the raindrops and thinking about good things in our lives, like plants need to catch the rain on their leaves and in the soil to help them grow well.”

“I enjoyed the reflections because it gave me a moment to think about these things and how it helps me.”
